We have all started diets, exercise programs, new jobs, or home improvement projects with lofty goals and expectations. Unfortunately, most of the time those expectations are not met.
What if I told you that the secret to achieving something big, was starting very small?
It's true! While we think we have to change our whole lives to lose weight, exercise more, or finally have an organized house, the truth is that over time many small changes are more likely to create the outcome you want.
Take dieting, for example.
Most people starting a diet are very strict. They make a list a mile long of the foods they cannot eat and they vow to go to the gym every day. Not only is this miserable, but it has also been shown time and time again to be ineffective for long term diet change and weight loss.
So, do less and benefit more. Here's how.
Pick one small thing that you can do today, maybe even right now, to improve your health. Replace one soda with a glass of water or do some light stretching before bed. Eat one fruit or vegetable with each meal, or get an hour more of sleep.
Do just this one small thing and see how you feel.
If you want to take it a step further, try doing this one small thing for two days in a row, or for a week. Once you have mastered your one small thing, pick another! Continue to step up your game one small step at a time.
