4 Healthy Habits That Don't Involve Dieting or Exercise

You want to get healthier but going to the gym or starting a new diet sounds like a lot of work. Many of us have felt this way at one time or another. But did you know that there are healthy behaviors that don't involve exercise or dieting?


Keep reading for 4 healthy habits you can adopt today for a healthier life and little to no additional effort.


1. Chew Your Food, Eat Slowly


This first habit is something our mothers have been telling us since we were children, so it's about time we listened. Chewing your food longer forces you to take more time when eating a meal. And more time eating a meal means more time for your brain to process that you're full and you don't need to eat more.


Studies have shown that eating slowly can even help you lose weight. So, skip the gym and eat what you like (within reason), just eat it slowly.


2. Drink Water


There are many benefits to regular hydration. It's an easy way to support your digestive system and regulate hunger.


Aim to drink somewhere between 2 - 4 liters of water a day. Swapping a glass of water for a soda or juice is another healthy habit that can help you lose weight or sustain a healthy weight.


3. Sleep


What if you could get healthier by sleeping instead of going to the gym? While I am still an advocate for physical activity, sleep is very important for a healthy weight and lifestyle.


Sleeping helps regulate hormones that affect hunger, cravings, and the body's stress response. Aim for 7-9 hours a night. Create an environment that is conducive to good sleep - no screens, bright lights, or pets in the bed.


4. Reduce Stress


Focusing on managing your stress levels could be more beneficial than a diet or exercise plan. When you manage stress, you manage your levels of cortisol. Regulating cortisol regulates your body's ability to burn fat instead of storing it.


Try adding meditation, deep breathing, or another anti-stress activity to your daily routine. Practice gratitude and look for ways to support your mental health.


No Gym, No Diet, Just Living Better


Exercise and a balanced diet are ideal for living a healthy life - but if you're not in a place to make changes in those areas of your life, that's okay!


Instead, start with these 4 habits. Notice how your energy levels change and you start to feel better. There are many ways to live better. You just need to find out which ways work best for you!
